Blue Flower Quilt

I was organizing my all of my dyed scraps and realized that I had almost enough to make a whole new throw quilt.

This is more of mixed media piece: I hand dyed the fabric in shades of red and purple. Then I stretched it out in a frame and randomly painted flowers and vines. After it was all dry, I quilted the flowers to give them more definition.

The purple fabric was made by putting the fabric in the dye bath several times. It had the effect of layering the color. I used a mint green to outline the celtic know.

I had seen these pinwheel flowers in a few stores on quilts and wall hangings and wanted to try it. I cut circles from some dyed and store bought scraps. The stem and leaves were free-motion stitched with green and blue, as it adds more depth.

This was one of my scrap pieces where I had wanted to try the outlining but didn't really have a project planned for it. I made two using more of my dyed fabric.

The backing: I had originally intended to use solid black fabric but I really like the effect of dying the fabric myself. Here I used several dye baths of green with purple and blue.

This is the upper left hand corner to show more detail on the fabric. I love how it always comes out different creating a unique and one of a kind quilt.
